Prosperity
Shared Economic Prosperity
Maintain and grow a strong, equitable and diverse economy through a variety of businesses, industries, and employment opportunities to benefit all Durham residents and communities.
To tell the story of this goal, we have shown data to set the stage and provide context followed by the objectives of this goal with their corresponding initiatives.
Working across the City – with educational institutions, individuals, and business, the Office of Economic and Workforce Development is stiving to build and maintain a workforce that helps the economy and residents of Durham thrive. A higher median household income and median hourly wage and a lower unemployment rate are key indicators of shared economic prosperity within a community. These factors not only reflect economic well-being and stability but also contribute to creating an environment where opportunities, resources, and benefits are more widely accessible among community members, fostering a more equitable and thriving society. In simple terms, when the average family makes more money and more people have jobs in a community, it means everyone is generally better off. It helps families live better lives and creates a stronger, happier community for everyone.
