To achieve the average per capita property tax burden of peer cities, which include Charlotte, Raleigh, Cary, Greensboro, and Winston Salem. Chapel Hill is not included in the target calculation due to a lack of available data.
The Department of the North Carolina State Treasurer Local Government Division publishes this data on its website annually. The data comes from each municipality's Annual Financial Information Report (AFIR).
The City of Durham continues to report a larger than average per capita property tax burden compared to the other 5 benchmark cities.
The measure is as up to date as possible--the State Treasurer's website hasn't published data for FY 20 yet.
