Energy use per square foot (EUI) of City buildings
Target
The City has set a goal of reducing the amount of energy use intensity (kBTU/sq.ft.) in City buildings. It aims to reduce 2016 levels by 30% in 2040 (Sustainability Roadmap outcome measure).
Analysis
Greenhouse gas emissions data for FY 21 cannot be calculated until Duke Energy provides cumulative electric consumption data for that year. Duke Energy is currently transitioning to a new billing platform and cannot provide the data until that process is completed.
Next Steps
The City is in the process of developing a Carbon Neutrality and Renewable Energy Action Plan in collaboration with a consultant, GDS Associates, Inc. The plan is expected to be completed in June 2021, and will include recommendations for reducing overall energy use and energy use intensity in City buildings.
