Energy use per square foot (EUI) of City buildings
The City has set a goal of reducing the amount of energy use intensity (kBTU/sq.ft.) in City buildings. It aims to reduce 2016 levels by 30% in 2040 (Sustainability Roadmap outcome measure).
The City has completed Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning, controls, and lighting upgrades in several City buildings since 2010, which has reduced overall energy use in the buildings by 10% and reduced energy use intensity by 6% during that time period.
The City is in the process of developing a Carbon Neutrality and Renewable Energy Action Plan in collaboration with a consultant, GDS Associates, Inc. The plan is expected to be completed in June 2021, and will include recommendations for reducing overall energy use and energy use intensity in City buildings.
