# of Ideas Submitted via Participatory Budgeting
Participatory Budgeting (PB) is a democratic process in which community members directly decide how to spend part of a public budget. In 2018, the Durham City Council allocated $2.4 million dollars to implement participatory budgeting in the City of Durham. PB Durham launched with idea collection on November 1st and has engaged over 5,000 residents through social media, in-person engagement, and targeted outreach.
PB Durham is committed to a model of continuous improvement, redesign and evaluation. Evaluation of the PB Durham initiative is on-going and a formal evaluation will be conducted in fiscal year 2020. Feedback and information gathered during the evaluation period will be incorporated to future redesign of the PB framework.
