Energy use - per sq./ft. of key city facilities
The City has set a goal of reducing the amount of energy use intensity (kBTU/sq.ft.) in City buildings by 30% below FY 2016 levels by 2040 (Sustainability Roadmap outcome measure).
Energy use intensity in City buildings has fluctuated in recent years. Energy saving measures have been effective in reducing consumption and costs, but a more focused and comprehensive approach is needed to achieve energy use intensity goals.
The Energy Management Team in the General Services Department is tracking energy use in City buildings and investigating unusual spikes that occur. General Services will conduct energy audits in key buildings in FY 2020-21 to identify additional opportunities for energy and cost savings. with the overall goal of reducing energy use intensity.
