Total Durham NextGen Program Participants
The target will be defined after another period of data has been collected.
The NCworks NextGen Durham program exists to serves young adults ages 17 to 24 that currently experience roadblocks to success in self-sufficient employment. Eligible participants are either basic skills deficient, pregnant or parenting, justice involved, high school dropouts, or living within a poverty area in Durham. Currently the NextGen team is serving 125 young adults in this effort with the goal of serving 150 each program year. We have actively assisted 35 youth with WIOA funded internships and 63 youth with gaining permanent employment.
NextGen focus is providing young adults prospects to begin developing career pathways and gain work experience within their career field of interest. Each new participant completes Career Readiness Training to gain essential skills for being successful in the workplace. Opportunities are created for youth to engage in GED tutoring, apprenticeship, work experience internships, direct hire work, occupational skills training, or support during post-secondary education. Monthly, youth participate in several activities including Leadership Development, Post-Secondary School Exposure, Entrepreneurship, and Financial Literacy.
